FAQ

General Questions

How is Icon related to iS Clinical?

Icon Skincare was created by the founders of iS Clinical, Bryan Johns and Alec Call, and is backed by over 25 years of clinical skincare expertise from Innovative Skincare. While iS Clinical delivers advanced, medical-grade skin health interventions, Icon takes a different approach—focusing on simplicity, self-selection, and bringing enjoyment and ritual to the fundamentals of daily skin self-care.

Think of it this way: iS Clinical is your dermatologist’s recommendation. Icon is your daily ritual of confidence.

Is Icon for men or women?

Icon Skincare is designed for everyone. Great skin has no gender. Our products are formulated to address universal skin needs—hydration, radiance, texture, and joy —and are suitable for all skin types regardless of gender.

Do you work with charities or non-profits?

Yes. Giving back is central to who we are. Through our Future Icons program, we partner with three organizations:

Foster Love — Improving the experience and outcomes for the more than 400,000 children currently in the U.S. foster care system, including sibling reunification programs and STEM education initiatives.

Pacific Clinics / Hollygrove — Supporting early childhood education and family engagement programs that keep children connected and in school, continuing a legacy of service that has touched over 20,000 children.

Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund — Protecting pollinator health and supporting the ecosystems that sustain the bee-derived ingredients at the heart of our formulas.

Find out more on here.

Why do you work with Foster Love, Hollygrove, and the Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund?

Our tagline is “Confidence you can feel,” and we believe confidence is a human right—especially for children navigating life’s hardest chapters. Foster Love and Hollygrove both work to nurture the next generation of icons: children who will lead with warmth and live with purpose. Early intervention in education and emotional wellness dramatically improves outcomes for children entering adulthood.

The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund connects directly to our formulations. Royal jelly, honey, and propolis are signature ingredients across the Icon line, and supporting healthy hive populations is both an ethical responsibility and a reflection of our brand values.

Ingredients & Formulation

Is Icon Skincare cruelty-free?

Icon Skincare products are not tested on animals. Like our sister brand iS Clinical, we are committed to cruelty-free practices.

Our formulas do include ethically sourced bee-derived ingredients—royal jelly, honey, and propolis; as well as ethically sourced lanolin, a byproduct of wool processing.

Does Icon contain parabens, phthalates, Formaldehyde & Formaldehyde releasing agents, coal tar, Triclosan and triclocarban, Hydroquinone, Methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone?

Icon products are formulated to meet Innovative Skincare’s high standards, which exclude parabens, phthalates, and a comprehensive list of ingredients of concern.  These standards are consistent with those held up as best practices by major beauty retailers.

Does it contain fragrance or essential oils?

Our formulas are designed to be as clean as possible. In limited cases, a small amount of fragrance has been incorporated at low concentrations purely to ensure a pleasant sensory experience and eliminate any undesirable scent from the base formula.

If you have specific fragrance sensitivities, we recommend reviewing the full ingredient list for each product on our website.

Does it contain SLS or SLES?

Our cosmetic products are formulated without SLS or SLES, avoiding these harsh sulfates commonly used as cleansing agents. Instead, we use gentler alternatives that help maintain the skin’s natural balance while still delivering effective performance.

Does it contain forever chemicals (PFAs)?

Our cosmetic products are not formulated with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) compounds. We are committed to carefully selecting ingredients that align with our safety and quality standards.

Why are you using mineral oil and lanolin in The Icon Cream – Heritage formula?

The Icon Cream – Heritage is based on a legacy formula used by some of the most famous faces of Golden Era Hollywood, and is a faithful recreation. This product has quickly become a fan favorite, but we understand ingredient choices for your skincare routine are a very personal one.  For those favoring a much more modern interpretation, we have The Icon Cream – Reinvented.

Is it naturally sourced?

Icon products are formulated with botanically based ingredients of the highest quality and purity, including plant-derived extracts and our signature bee-created ingredients (royal jelly, honey, and propolis). Like iS Clinical, our raw materials are pharmaceutical grade and do not contain fillers, toxic metals, or impurities. We take a balanced approach to ingredient selection in order to maximize efficacy, safety, and enjoyment.  We use ingredients derived directly from the natural world, as well as those produced in a lab.

Is it organic?

Our products are not certified organic, although we source organic ingredients in many cases. Achieving full organic certification involves complex, multi-level certifications across different countries and agencies, and is not always practical for every ingredient. Our priority is ingredient quality, purity, and sustainability.

Is it Certified Kosher?

No, Icon Skincare has not undergone Kosher certification.

Are Icon products vegan?

No, several Icon Skincare products contain animal-created ingredients – honey, propolis, royal jelly created by bees; milk from cows, and lanolin.

Are the products gluten-free? Certified Gluten-free? Is there a risk of cross-contamination?

The Icon Skincare formulas are not formulated with gluten-containing ingredients.  They are not certified gluten-free because there is no FDA gluten-free certification.

Where is your mica sourced from?

The mica used in our products is a mineral sourced in the United States.

Where is your honey (and honey extract)  and royal jelly sourced from?

The honey (and honey extract) used in ICON products are ethically sourced from beehives in the United States.  Royal jelly is sourced globally. These ingredients are ethically sourced and in a sustainable and responsible manner with the suppliers being vetted for their practice of beekeeping treatment of workers employed in the process.  The honey is processed under GMP practices and a HACCP Program.

Have these products been third-party tested?

All Icon Skincare products have undergone in-house and external laboratory testing that adheres to industry best practices to ensure safety before reaching consumers. Our formulas are developed and manufactured in partnership with Innovative Skincare, leveraging over 25 years of clinical expertise.

Are your products non-comedogenic? Do they contain pore-clogging ingredients?

Icon products are formulated with care for healthy skin, drawing on 25 years of clinical expertise from Innovative Skincare. We do not make a blanket non-comedogenic claim, since skin reacts individually, and a few of our heritage-inspired formulas (notably The Icon Cream — Heritage) contain rich emollients such as mineral oil and lanolin that some people may prefer to avoid. We recommend reviewing the full ingredient list for each product on iconskincare.com if you have a known sensitivity, and patch-testing before regular use.

Where are your ingredients sourced from?

Icon ingredients are sourced globally through trusted partners selected for quality, purity, and ethical practices.

Allergens & Sensitivities

Can I use Icon products if I am allergic to honey or bees?

Royal jelly, honey, and propolis are signature ingredients featured across the Icon line. If you have a known allergy to bee products, we recommend consulting with your physician or dermatologist before using Icon products. If you would like to try our products, we suggest performing a patch test on a small area of skin before applying them to the face.

Can I use Icon products if I’m allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, soy, or lactose?

We recommend reviewing the full ingredient list for each product on our website, as formulations vary across the line. Some products may contain ingredients derived from these sources.

If you have a history of sensitivity, we strongly recommend consulting with your physician and performing a patch test before use.

Can I use Icon products if I am on prescription skincare?

If you are currently using prescription skincare products (such as tretinoin, hydroquinone, or other active treatments), we recommend consulting with your prescribing physician or dermatologist before introducing Icon products into your routine. They can advise on the best way to integrate our products with your existing regimen.

Can I use the products if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend consulting with your physician before using Icon Skincare products if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.

Who do I contact for an allergic reaction?

If you experience an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. For any medical issue associated with ICON product use, you may also call our 24/7 toll-free number 1-833-224-2010, where you will speak with a licensed healthcare professional who can answer your questions, provide you with health and safety information, and advise on proper action that you should take.

How do I patch test a new product?

To patch test, apply a small amount of product to a discreet area such as the inner forearm or behind the ear. Wait 24 to 48 hours and observe for any redness, irritation, or other reactions before applying to the face. If a reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional or call 1-833-224-2010, any time, any day, where you will be connected with a licensed healthcare professional.

Product Usage

Can I use all of these products together, or should some formulas not be used at the same time?

Icon products are designed to work beautifully together as a complete ritual. Our philosophy of skin minimalism—“use less, feel more”—means each product multitasks, so you don’t need to layer excessively.

As with any skincare, listen to your skin.

Can I use Icon products with other skincare lines?

Much like transitioning from another product line, Icon products can be integrated into your existing routine. If you have a history of sensitivity, we recommend patch testing when introducing new products. For the best results, we recommend consulting with a skincare professional who can help tailor a regimen to your specific needs.

Packaging & Sustainability

Is the packaging recyclable?

Icon packaging is designed with sustainability in mind. Our line uses post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics and reusable glass components. We also offer refills for six of our products.  Our cartons are also FSC certified. We encourage customers to check local recycling guidelines, as curbside recyclability varies by municipality.

Do you offer a recycling program?

Icon encourages the use of curbside recycling, where available. We encourage customers to check local recycling guidelines, as recyclability will vary by municipality.

How do the refills work?

Six of our nine products feature refillable packaging. When your product runs low, you can purchase a refill cartridge and simply replace the inner vessel—keeping the outer packaging you already own. This reduces waste and keeps the cost of replenishment lower than purchasing a full unit. Detailed instructions are included with each refill.

Where is the product made?

Icon’s packaging is sourced globally, and the product is manufactured and filled in the USA.

Do you follow any sustainability practices when making your products?

Yes. Sustainability is built into how we make and ship Icon. Our packaging incorporates substantial levels of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics, reusable glass components, and FSC-certified outer cartons. Six of our nine products feature refillable packaging, reducing waste over time. We also support pollinator health through the Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund, in recognition of the bee-created ingredients at the heart of our formulas.
